There is a legend which we'd like to share with you before you go on your quest:

Catharina and Saskia Mager were twin sisters born in Amsterdam a long time ago. They were from a modest Protestant family that became wealthier thanks to the father’s job as a merchant and the abundance of trade routes during the century.

In 1691, when their parents were no longer alive and the two sisters were living in two different places, they decided to build a bridge. This would create a quick route between their houses and a place where to have occasional night conversations.
They gave it the name of “Magere Brug”.

During summer nights, Saskia and Catharina would often meet in the middle of the bridge, carrying a lantern to easily spot each other. They always had the same pocket watch, a present from their father, and they both wore a necklace inherited from their mother.

It was in the middle of a winter night, while Catharina was getting ready to welcome the sister at her house, that a police officer knocked at her door.
She was informed that a burglar had tried to rob Saskia while crossing the bridge and during a violent fight both criminal and victim fell in the icy cold canal, losing their lives…

The tragic event left Catharina’s heart broken and she couldn’t stand the loss of her beloved twin for too much. After a couple of months she got heavily sick and died.

The legend says that the souls of the two sisters are still longing to meet there when it gets dark. Nowadays the Magere Brug gets often lit at dusk, for them to find their favourite meeting place with ease.
